Special Terms of Service

These Special Terms of Use govern the access and use of the Our Ocean Conference (QOC) Commitment Database, which is maintained and hosted by the OOC Secretariat/host country World Resources Institute (“WRI,” “We,”, “Our,” or “Us”). The OOC database is an online platform used to track and manage commitments made by attendees and facilitate communications regarding commitments and future conferences.

By accessing the database, users (“You”, “Your’”) acknowledge and agree to comply with these Special Terms of Service (the “Terms’’), which supplement WRI’s General Terms of Use. You are strictly prohibited from using the database for any commercial, unauthorized, or non-conference related purposes. Any actions, uses or sharing outside of the scope of these agreements is strictly prohibited.

Users with access to the database may only use personal data or information (i.e. name, phone number, email/mailing address, position title, phone number, etc) for the following purposes:

Collect and record new commitments.
Request updates on previous commitments.
Communicate with designated points of contact (POCs) regarding commitments and the upcoming Our Ocean Conference.
Facilitate conference-related outreach by WRI and future host countries.
Share personal data with third parties only in exceptional cases, such as commissioning a research study. In such cases, data may only be shared with the research team to contact POCs on behalf of the host country.
If it is necessary to download personal data or information, all files shall be deleted from your computer within 24 hours.

Users must ensure that any downloaded data is securely stored and deleted from local devices once it is no longer needed.

Access to the database is restricted to authorized WRI and OOC planning team personnel.

By accessing and using this service, you agree to comply with all applicable data protection laws, including but not limited to the General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/279 (“GDPR”).

Indemnification: You agree to indemnify and hold harmless WRI from any claims, damages, fines, or penalties arising out of non-compliance with GDPR or violations of these Terms of Use.

WRI reserves the right to update or modify these Terms of Use at any time. Continued use of the service following such updates constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.

You acknowledge that by entering their information into the OOC Commitment Database, you consent to receiving updates from WRI regarding commitment progress and upcoming conferences. You may be required to confirm Your consent via a pop-up agreement when logging into the system.

You may opt out of non-essential communications at any time by contacting the WRI OOC Secretariat team at OOCSecretariat@wri.org. If you choose to opt out, it may affect your ability to receive important conference-related updates.

By accessing the OOC Commitment Database, users confirm their agreement to these Special Terms of Use.
